comp wont do anything

compaq presario press the comp on button, no light like it wasnt pluged in. changed power supply with a known good one still nothing. it shut down normally last time I used it. I think it overheated a couple of times the past few weeks where it just went off. both times it restarted after 10 minutes. took it apart to clean the dust inside, very bad in there. took the the cpu cooling fan and heat sink off, completely clogged.
is my baby gone for good?

You could check the power switch for continuity when it's pressed.

Thanks, checked power switch ok, pluged everything back up and started comp. cpu fan came on. wiggled some wires around and restarted, it works! had some problems with some programs not working. was just about to re install virus scanner then noticed the date/time was set to nov 2999? reset date now everything works just fine...thanks

Seems that you need to replace your CMOS battery.

I second that.

If you change the clock to correct time/date, then turn off computer, the next time you start it should be the correct time and date, if not, the CMOS battery is not powering the clock while power is off.

Most likely it takes the CR2032 as illustrated in the link that Louis provided.
Check your local Dollar Store. I know the one here has them for 2 for 5 dollars.
