I have an HP DV2900, and my LCD screen is acting up. Oddly enough- while the display is having problems- it is NOT due to overheating of the GPU (the GPU is intel and is about 60 degrees C). It works great in an external monitor situation, and (if the screen is wiggled a bit in the process) still functions as a laptop. It is therefore an LCD problem of some sort. My problem is choosing what replacement part to order. The ribbon cable could be bad, the LCD itself could be going, and it might be the inverter. I really don't know which.

I have taken apart the laptop to a certain extent. The ribbon cable is plugged in securely to both the LCD and motherboard. There were no visible defects in the ribbon cable. Beyond that I have little information- so I made a video of what the LCD screen is doing. You can find that video HERE:

and offer your opinion on how to diagnose or confirm what is wrong.

That is a loose cable or connection causing that.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

Could the "loose" connection in question actually be a failing ribbon cable? I checked and replugged in all video connections before posting the video.

How about under the LCD itself?

the cables I checked were under the keyboard (to motherboard) and behind the LCD screen (to LCD). both were secure.

check the wiring itself and see if you see any bent or broken wires.

how bent is bent? Aren't the inherent characteristics of a ribbon cable that it is flat and flexible?
