Yes, shut McAffee down completely, it's likely interfering with the install

Hello Catbyte,
Sorry was gone for a few days, anyway I have done all that was asked of me from you and the adobe people and I'm still unable to install the adobe products that were uninstalled at your request, I must say all are at a loss as to why they will not install, must be something no one is seeing. At this point I'm not sure what to do but take the computer to the shop and see if they can install the adobe products, by all accounts the computer works fine and is faster than ever and there appears to be no sign of windows fix. any last ideas before I spend the money?

Thanks
Ronniewho

Take a look here:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/836/cpsid_83641.html

is the older version of reader uninstalled?

Do you have other adobe products on your machine?

Are you able to download the latest version to your desktop?

what happens when you try and install?

Do you get any error messages?

Hi Catbyte,
I have uninstalled all adobe products with revo uninstaller and have not been able to install any adobe products, I have tried other browsers(firefox) and download links, it always stops at the same point, installs about 33% and stops with the error stating config failed, I have saved the programs to my desk top and have shut everything off using msconfig as asked by adobe. it still will not install, I get an error stating that the action list could not be found, when I shut everything off I can not connect to the web and I think that maybe the issue.the other issue I'm having is that when I use msconfig it tells me that somethings could not be done and could only be done by the admin, I log on as the admin and still get the same error when I use ms config.I'm almost ready to copy everthing and reformat and start over which will be a big PIA or spend some money and take it to the shop.I'm really at a loss, this should be easy....

Thanks
Ronniewho

This is strange, could be a permission issue, don't give up hope yet, I will ask for input from my expert colleagues to see if they have a solution.

I'll be back as soon as I can.

Please try the following:

please download GrantPerms.zip and save it to your desktop.

Unzip the file and run GrantPerms.exe

Copy and paste the following in the edit box:

C:\Program Files

Click List Permissions and post the result (Perms.txt) that pops up.

A copy of Perms.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run.

Also please download the direct download of Adobe Reader X from this link and save it to your desktop

ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/win/10.x/10.0.0/en_US/AdbeRdr1000_en_US.exe

Hi

Couple of things to try:

To make certain Adobe is completely installed take a look here:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/400/kb400769.html

It's for an older version of Adobe (8.0) but the process should still be valid.

Some other things to try:

1. Search the hard drive for anything adobe related and delete it.

2. Search the registry for anything with Adobe in it and delete it.

Prior to deleting anything from the Registry back it up with ERUNT in case there are issues:

Download ERUNT to your Desktop (right-click the link, select Save Link/Target As..., select your Desktop and press Save)
Right-click erunt.zip, choose Extract All… and follow the prompts to unzip the program.
Open the erunt folder on your Desktop and double-click ERUNT.exe to start the program
Click OK for all the prompts to back up your registry to the default location.

3. Create a new user account with Administrator permissions, now try installing Adobe from the newly created user account.
