I am an IT major studying Java programming. I attempted several times to compile a .java file with DOS (created with Notepad) with DOS. However, every time I attempt to compile it, I receive an "illegal character" error. This is in spite of the fact that the file appears to be in order. Any help to resolve this issue is appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

It would be helpful to see the code. Do you mean that you are compiling it from the command line? Is the syntax error in your comand, or is it in the Java code?
