bsod

bsod will not startup.starts to load xp then goes to bsodI

I have a HP Pavillion zd8000.On startup it starts to load xp but than goes to blue screen with these codes 0x00000024 (0x00190203 0x86d65ca0 0xc0000102 0x00000000 It will not boot from cdrom. can you help me Thanks bigdad1939

If you could provide the error code from the top of the screen it will help us more with troubleshooting, it is usually below the first sentence of text and in ALL CAPS with underscores between the words (i.e. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL). If there is a reference to a file after the STOP CODE that would be very useful as well (i.e. gv3.sys at Address .. .. ..).

What steps have you taken to boot to CD-ROM? Does nothing happen when you put the CD in? Have you tried changing the boot order?

There are no codes on blue screen listed. I changed cdrom to to frist on boot list.

When you get the BSOD again, could you please take a picture of the screen or something so we can have more info on the error. Those error codes that you gave us can point to a number of things. We need a Stop error message that specifically tells us the problem.

this is what is on screen. Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilites. check your hard drive configuration, and check for updated drivers. Run chkdsk /f to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

I would start with running the chkdsk /r command.

Start/Run...type chkdsk /r and hit Enter. Type Y in new window and hit Enter. Reboot.

The command will execute...the system will boot into Windows upon completion of command.

I suggest you boot to the XP CD and choose the first repair option. That will take you to the recovery console. Once there, run chkdsk /r

If the system still doesn't boot after that I suggest a repair install: Boot to the XP CD and choose the SECOND repair option, allowing XP to install on top of itself. After completion you'll need to go to Windows Update and download & install all updates (except for hardware & driver related updates, which should never be downloaded from Windows Update - only from the OEM websites).
