After 10 years of using a desktop, I'm seriously considering buying my first notebook (probably HP Pavilion g6x) and for the first time I'm starting to think about issues that notebook-users think about. Specifically, I'm thinking about laptop cooling pads.

How come I don't hear about these things anymore? Has laptop technology advanced enough that new laptops don't need them? Or am I going to have to buy one for my new notebook?

Most modern laptops have addressed the cooling issues that plagued the notebook line for a long while. Now, with that said it doesn't mean a cooling pad wouldn't do you any good. If you plan on keeping the computer on a soft surface like sheets, or your lap when you have pants on the pad would be nice to have so the computer has something to sit on besides fabric (which makes them heat up fast).

If you opt to get a cooling pad, check your local Dollar General or Big Lots.
Sometimes they carry them & they are cheaper than anywhere else.
In the beginning there was the command line.
