BleepingComputer.com: Problem On Desktop

Hello. I'm having a problem when I get to my desktop after start-up

I began to see something odd happening yesterday after my Firefox froze & stopped working. I then opened up some IE pages & they too froze up. When I clicked on the IE tab that asked if I wanted to reopen the pages, the pages opened & just started blinking on & off & acting crazy. I shut down my computer & left it off fr the night

This morning I turned it back on & it went through the normal start-up but when I got to my desktop, the background was all black & the cursor was just a spinning circle that wouldn't stop. I rebooted several times & the same thing occurred. Also, sometimes my desktop would show the icons on it & sometimes it wouldn't

I ran Malwarebytes which found nothing & am running Avira anti-virus now. So far it's showing some detections. It seems like this scan is going very slow & may take hours. Also, I'm in safe mode as I write this since I can't get online in normal mode

I'll hopefully clean up what Avira finds & I'll post what is found & see if that clears it up but am posting this now to see if anyone knows what causes this & has a solution

OK, Avira found a bunch of "detections" which were quarantined. I have no idea where I got all those things but most were "Java" type exe's.

Anyway, when I rebooted it went black again for roughly 5 seconds then the black went away & I had my normal desktop back & my cursor was normal. I'm able to get online with normal mode again. So..., I guess it's OK, although the black screen appearing again even for a few seconds bothers me

I don't want to bother you tech guys since I realize you have lot's of people to help & it seems I've fixed my problem
