Hello and welcome to the forum!

Whats the make/model of the laptop?
Sounds like a hard drive issue.
How long ago was it replaced?

You might take the drive out of the system & check the manufacture date.
Do so with the system unplugged and the battery removed.
Western Digital typically has a three year warranty.
You might check the warranty status here
In the beginning there was the command line.
