Internet Explorer 8 cannot display page - operation aborted

When I try to navigate to certain sites I receive the following error "Internet Explorer cannot display the page - operation aborted". Additionally, my start menu no longer populates with recently used programs. I believe both problems are a result of contracting an xp anti-spy 2011 virus, which I was able to remove but these problems still linger. Any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks.

Can you go to www.microsoft.com? Windows Update?

I suggest disabling all that have nothing to do with Windows, Java, Shockwave, and Flash Player...and seeing if your problems go away. One or more may be damaged and/or creating your problem.

I tried what you suggested and that does not correct the problem. Any other suggestions? I believe it may have to do something with scripts as I sometimes get problems with that when I try to refresh. Thanks.

If you getting error messages about scripts on webpages...you probably need to disable script debugging. Such errors cannot be corrected by users, since they exist on within the formatting of the page.

If I encounter that I first described, sometimes I try to refresh the page or hit the "Back" button. When I do that, I get an error that says the site is trying to run a script. Do I want to continue running the script? It says that running the script will slow the computer down. Hope this helps. Thanks.

As to answering the question posed...to continue/not continue running scripts...I see no point in running such if I know that the page has errors. I've never seen an instance where answering "no" diminished my ability to view/use that webpage.
