I recently had a blue screen of death which i fixed (with help)
It was fixed by booting to an xp recovery disk.
I now need to set up an internet connection.
I plugged in an ethernet cable from my hub to the computer. (this cable works fine for another laptop I have)
When I put the bt broadband set up disk into the computer, it says it cannot detect either a wireless or wired connection type on my computer.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
thanks

So I did what you said and I can see yellow question mark symbols saying "ethernet controller", network controller, PCI device etc.

I have downloaded and installed the drivers as you said
I have been able to connect wirelessly but the signal is too far away and I want to connect with and ethernet cable instead.
when I plug in the ethernet cable, I am not able to go online. The hub is fine and the cable is fine, (it works on another laptop),
So I was wondering what i need to do next to connect via the cable.
The cd that comes with my isp is not very helpful. It only tries to connect me to wireless which I don't want.
any help appreciated

there is a section for "other devices" which all have what looks like yellow question marks.
these are for "audio devices", "ethernet controller" and "video controller".
when I click on "ethernet controller", is says "the drivers for this device are not installed (code 28)"

Please, go back to your laptop mfg's website and find any drivers you did not yet install and download and install them (chipset, ethernet, video, whatever)
