BleepingComputer.com: A VERY SENSATIVE ISSUE... PLEASE HELP!!!

You folks (Bleepin Gringo) repaired my computer sevral months ago from a maleware attack. Now I am almost certain I have a similar, but very different issue at hand. I have PM'd Gringo about this since he was the one to work on my system originally and has seen my previous logs, but have not heard back. I don't know if that would be a benefit, or if an entirely different department would be better equipt to handle a situation like this one? Any assistance or direction you can lend would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently amidst a divorce. My wife ran off with my our two children (1 year old little girl and 3 year old little boy) about a year ago. I finally caught up with her and am now fighting for custody of my babies in court. I have had my suspicions over the past year that she was recording all of my phone calls and having me followed. I recently learned that this was in fact the case.

I have also had suspicions that she is involved with an IT guy where her mother works and has had him monitor my computer activity on the same computer that was worked worked on months ago. My favor to ask of you is, can you look back at those reports and logs and / or create new ones to determine if someone is / was monitoring my computer and who the cuplrite might be?

I understand this to be a Federal offense, thus would almost certainly gaurantee that I be granted custody of my two little children. I am as certain that this is being done as I was about being followed and recorded. I ask you to please lend your assistance if there is any way possible that you are able. I would be forever in your debt.

I do realize the sensative nature of this subject, so I am using a computer I have at my shop on a completly different network to send you this message. I have been careful not to do any searching or inquiring about such a subect on my laptop (the computer in question) or on my home network as not to raise any red flags. Not only do I want to see if they are monitoring my computer, I want to catch them in the act. Time is of the essence since I have a final court date quickly approaching which will utimately determine my children's future. Please help me if you can.

I feel that it would be in your best interest to contact someone locally to do this job. Why?

• Chain of evidence - You need to have someone knowledgeable in computer forensics to look at your computer and secure any evidence found. If you are looking to build a case, this is critical.
  
• Availability to appear in court - Whoever takes this case may have to appear as a witness in court. A defense lawyer will examine the person who helps you credentials. We have a great malware team here, but not sure if we can accomplish the needs here for a certified computer forensic technician.

It is for these reasons that we feel you should speak to a local tech that specializes in forensics.

If you still wish to have your computer just "inspected", I will pass your request on.

Thank you so much for your speedy reply. Could you help me with a couple of questions before we move forward?

1) Is what I'm thinking possible with them having my IP address and perhaps hacking my router?

2) If you guys "inspect" my system could it be done dicreetly or would they be able to see that I was on to them?

3) I saw you are in SC. I'm in Gainesville, GA (north of Atlanta). Would you know of anyone in this area to recommend?

A word of forewarning. If we "touch" the computer in any way (this includes running any tools or having you perform steps), then any forensic analysis is out of the question; you won't be able to use it for evidence since the integrity of the machine has now been compromised.

Before we attempt to set something up to help you we need to make sure you have no intentions on using the machine as evidence of any sort in court proceedings.

Thank you so much for your advice. I wished to reply sooner, but am waiting to here back from my attorney. I did contact a local forensics firm (all ex-law enforcement). They recomended that I route my dealings with them thru my attorney as this would limit any dicoveries to "attorney client priveledge". So that is why I'm waiting on my attorney's response.

I will keep you posted and let you know the minute I figure out which course of action I should take. Again, thank you for your knowledge and advice.
