BleepingComputer.com: Win98 Boot Failure

Hey,

i'm trying to boot up Windows 98 withan emergency boot up disk. Except i am having a lot of problems and don't no why. I have never used Windows 98 before or DOS , and really need help

I Insert the floppy disk and select option two: Start computer without CD-ROM support, then it takes me to a screen that says that the Drive C does not contain a valid FAT or FAT32 partition

I typed fdisk/mbr but it appears on the screen "No fixed disks present."

I typed Scandisk C: and it found no problems

I tried to type Sys C: and it says invalid function

I then inserted the Windows 98 Installation CD, and then i type E: and it says Invalid Drive specification, i then put the installation CD in drive F: and it said again Invalid drive specification.

It seems not to allow me to see the drive E and F

I really don't know what to do and any help would be greatly appreciated

You motherboard battery may be bad, and your BIOS is not retaining your settings. You will need to open the computer case(unplug the power first). It will be a nickel size battery. It looks like a watch battery but a little bigger. You can buy them most any wheres.Most department or grocrey store carries them.

You need to start the computer with CD support so the drivers for the CD drive will be loaded. If your CD drive is normally E: it will now be F: as the boot disk creates a virtual drive that pushes the drive letters back one.
