Yes, that is possible.
How does he read his email? Is it webmail (mail.aol.com), the AOL software, or some other email client?

When I get round to changing to Thunderbird or some such program, I would hope that such capability exists.
Might not be worth sending them to recipients on a dialup connection and there seem to be a lot of those still.
