I haven't bought a new desktop in about 8 years and I am totally lost.

My budget is around $600, though the cheaper the better.
I mostly will be using the computer for general web browsing (email, IM, etc.), music, graphics/digital art (mostly painting in photoshop with a graphics tablet) and some gaming.
Photosop CS3, itunes, animation shop, etc.
Most of the gaming would be WoW, but some older games as well. Being able to play Portal/Portal 2 would be a plus.
Typical programs open: itunes, web browser, AIM, and MSN, sometimes with Photoshop or WoW running (never both).
I store a lot of photos and music, lots of large PSD files from art.

The only catch is the tower needs to fit inside a 9.3"W x 16.5"D x 20.9"H storage compartment on a desk, which seems to be a bit small.
I have a monitor/keyboard/etc. already, so $600 is the budget just for the computer itself.

That's the exact one I was looking at, but after shipping & warranty it ends up well over $600.

I'm having a hard time finding one that will fit in that compartment which suits you needs.

This is my exact problem. Either the size isn't listed at all, or it's too big. I've contacted Newegg on one that seemed like it would be fine, but it did not list any physical specs on it. They provided me with these when I emailed them, and it's also too big.
You would think a desk would be made to accommodate most computers, but apparently not.

The one you first posted is still a possibility, I'd just prefer if I could keep it under $600. Thankyou for your help anyway.

I might be able to just have it hang out the back a bit, if it's only a tiny bit bigger in length, it's the width and height I can't do anything about.
Link?

I looked at this one too. I'm a little worried 20.78" might bee too tight of a fit for a 20.9" space. Hm. The other one is probably a better choice, just a little more than I wanted to spend. Oh well.
Thanks.

The LAN Warrior seems to be the perfect size desktop for desk compartment.

None of my business, but I happened to read this and my thought was- why not get a new desk? Or a new used desk, ala Craig's List, garage sales, etc. Desks can be very cheap compared to computers.

That could be a option.

There's a weird box thing sticking out of the only wall I can put a desk on, so most ones with a hutch/etc. won't fit right. Most other desks are also too big to fit in here too.

Well, if it were me, I'd buy whatever computer case was cheap, had all the ports I wanted etc, and then just sit it beside the desk. If the wires are too short, try setting the case to the other side of the desk, moving the monitor slightly to the right or left etc. to make sure all the wires can reach.

Do you by any chance have a drawer above the compartment? If so, you might want to remove the drawer if the tower is too high, might give you another 4 to 6 inches of height.

Or as someone suggested, buy a new desk. Although, if it were me, you wouldn't catch me spending $100 on a fancy block of wood to prop my computer on; I'd sit the tower on the floor, keyboard in my lap, and mouse&pad on a night stand; save that money for more RAM LOL.
