Well.... this is my first post on this forum, and it's got me stumped. Heres the situation. I put a computer together and am using Windows ME as an OS. I've had the problem pretty much from the start, but it's only since I've been running a game (Morrowind) that the problem has really become apparent. After about a half hour of gameplay, the sound starts making a sound like the old movie projectors made when the film jumped a sprocket, the graphics also really "dragged" although not as bad now since I stuck another memory stick in (512MB) When I go to the device manager, I see big yellow question marks next to PCI communication device, and another one next to PCI RAID controller. There is also a smaller one down further next to VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB serial Bus controller. My computer is running a:

Biostar M7VIT 800 motherboard
Soundblaster 24 bit sound card
Chaintech SA5500T2 GeForce FX5500 256MB 8X AGP card
Athlon XP2700 333mhz chip

I've checked all my settings in the BIOS and things SEEM o.k. but I can't be sure. The install guide that came with the mobo left a lot to be desired, info I really need isn't there. I think I've pretty much covered the problem, any ideas?

Hello roadbum and welcome to BC.

Are you using Raid? Did you run the Motherboard drivers? They can be found here.

I'm not using RAID, and the mobo didn't come with driver/install software (which I was expecting)

You must have bought an OEM board as opposed to Retail. I would run those drivers and then have another look at Device Manager.
