BleepingComputer.com: xp antivirus 2011 plus two versions of windows...

I have a compaq computer that is several years old (2 g ram, windows xp home) Ok...so I got the windows xp virus 2011 where it says you have a critical hard drive error. Umm...I'm sorry to admit that I tried to boot from the windows cd and I ended up installed windows xp pro on a different drive partition (turns out it is the one saved for recovery according to compaq). Now when I boot it gives me three options, xp pro (drive H), xp home, my original OS on drive c, or recovery console. The computer will boot in the new xp pro but I can't access any of my programs or documents and settings...they seem to be invisible or they are hidden system files. I cannot boot in Windows xp home, the computer just goes through an endless loop that brings me back to the same 3 choices. I did run chkdisk in the recovery console which fixed "one or more errors" but I still can't boot xp home. I do not have a windows xp home disk - this computer did not come with one and I can't find any recovery disks that might have been in the box (7 year ago!) I have tried copying the system file from the repair directory but on trying to boot it asks me for the administrator password, which is one that I don't know. I changed the system file back and now I'm stumped. As you might have guessed, I'm not so great at fixing computers and it seems I'm downright dangerous. Is there any hope?

I forgot to add that I ran malwarebytes in windows xp pro (downloaded the program from another computer onto usb stick and installed in drive h) and it found and corrected 7 entries. I'm not sure if malwarebytes ran on both drives.... I can't use any of the software on drive C, such as winzip (installed it fresh to open malwarebytes file) and I'm having trouble installing drivers, etc.
