When I try to reinstall the printer drivers from Printers and Faxes --> Add a Printer, I immediately get an error either that the print spooler isn't running or that "operation failed."
I tried reinstalling the full software and during the process the following error came up:
"Unhandled Exception
Error Number: 0x80040707
Description: DLL function call crashed: BRADDPRT.CheckLocalPort
Setup will now terminate."
print spooler won't stay on?

That's not what I suggested though and that is not the way you want to do this.
I recommended uninstalling everything printer related from add/remove programs
then disonnecting the USB cable
then reboot
then run the cd that came with the printer.
Do you want to do this or not?
You have two options:
A. I want the printer to work
B. I don't want to follow instructions and do what is told to me to try to fix it.
Pick ONE!

How friendly! Eyesee - If you look a post above your first one, I said I uninstalled and was rebooting, and would post the results after the reboot. There is no USB cable to disconnect because it connects over wifi, not USB.

Hi zjz2,
I wanted to isolate the issue that you are having so lets try this step by step.
Before proceeding do not connect your computer to your wireless router. (do the following steps offline)
1. In control panel > Add/Remove Programs, uninstall everything related to your Wireless Brother printer. (bundled software etc)
2. Restart the computer.
3. Using the disc that came with your printer, install the printer as a direct usb connection.
4. Plug in the usb cable once prompted by the Brother printer software wizard.
5. Do not print a test page but instead check the add/remove programs and see if ANY printers are listed, if not check print spooler if it is running.
If you encounter ANY errors during the steps, post it on which part of the step you encountered it.
Also check the event viewer logs and open the windows task manager when your doing the steps so you can see which processes seems to spike up during the error.

Ok, thanks for all your help. I ran Hitman Pro, a virus and malware program, and it finally found something today - a bunch of malware. Other scans with Symantec didn't find anything. Removed the malware and viola, the spooler is working. Strange.
