Looking for a laptop for my daughter who is going to college in the fall. She will use it for school, writing, some gaming and internet use. Trying to stay around 500.

Acer's laptop quality aren't that good compared to Toshiba. The one i recommended has a faster processor with a better graphics and a larger hard drive.

The last Toshiba I messed with got out preformed by an acer that was 4 years older and had worse stats. Toshiba has a good warranty and replacement of there stuff, but for $200 dollars less it's way better for a collage student that is just going to loose it at the bar anyway. You can buy ram cheap it's not a big deal to install either, don't know why everyone thinks the system has to come with it they double there money on the ram they sell you. I didn't even look at the one you posted, I knew that I could point them at saving at least a couple hundred. Both are already outdated, as is everything that gets released these days, no sense in trying to stay on top of it all, it's impossible.

The processor from that Toshiba is the latest processor from Intel. Technically the i3 2310M is faster then the AMD C-350 and Acer has had substandard cpu cooler which leads to problems.

Yea, but for $200 less and it's just to start college it should run everything fine, not everyone is a hard core gamer. Not that the laptop you mentioned was a gaming laptop. They are both outdated already so why not just save the money for rent, food, or maybe a printer and cables to hook it up to your t.v. and a wireless mouse keyboard combo. Really you could get all that and still go out to eat, that's what I would do. As far as the cpu cooler well it comes with a warranty and it be a dinosaur when it runs out. Since windows 8 is already in the works, and you can DDR3 for $10, not to mention windows 7 is capable of handling like 60GB of ram anyway. Now they are saying everyone wants an all in one, so maybe will just throw power out the window all together. They are both ok, machines just depends how much you want to pay for last years computers at this point. That would do but i don't know about using it fro gaming because i don't know what game she plays.

Nothing very high speed I am sure. Aveyond is one I think.

Well if it's not a full on intensive 3D game then the graphics card coud hopefully handle it.
