OK, I finally got it....

Right click on Start Icon to Explore All Users and followed the path down to the HijackThis.exe.

THAT allowed me to run as administrator!

YAY!

Greetings

These logs are looking very good, we are almost done!!! Just one more scan to go.

:Remove unneeded startup entries:

This part of the fix is purely optional
These are programs that start up when you turn on your computer but don't need to be, any of these programs you can click on their icons (or start from the control panel) and start the program when you need it. By stopping these programs you will boot up faster and your computer will work faster.

  • Run HijackThis
  • Click on the Scan button
  • Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):

      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QPService] "C:\Program Files\HP\QuickPlay\QPService.exe"
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdateLBPShortCut] "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\LabelPrint\MUITransfer\MUIStartMenu.exe" "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\LabelPrint" UpdateWithCreateOnce "Software\CyberLink\LabelPrint\2.5"
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdateP2GoShortCut] "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\Power2Go\MUITransfer\MUIStartMenu.exe" "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\Power2Go" UpdateWithCreateOnce "SOFTWARE\CyberLink\Power2Go\6.0"
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdatePDIRShortCut] "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDirector\MUITransfer\MUIStartMenu.exe" "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDirector" UpdateWithCreateOnce "SOFTWARE\CyberLink\PowerDirector\7.0"
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Health Check Scheduler] "c:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Health Check\HPHC_Scheduler.exe"
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HP Software Update] "C:\Program Files\Hp\HP Software Update\HPWuSchd2.exe"
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IgfxTray] "C:\Windows\system32\igfxtray.exe"
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] "C:\Windows\system32\hkcmd.exe"
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Persistence] "C:\Windows\system32\igfxpers.exe"
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Java\Java Update\jusched.exe"
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Adobe ARM] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\ARM\1.0\AdobeARM.exe"

  • Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
  • Click on the "Fix Checked" button
  • When completed, close the application.

NOTE**You can research each of those lines >here< and see if you want to keep them or not
just copy the name between the brakets and paste into the search space
      O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IntelliPoint]

Eset Online Scanner

**Note** You will need to use Internet explorer for this scan - Vista and win 7 right click on IE shortcut and run as admin

  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
  • click on the ESET Online Scanner button
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
    • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the activex control to install
    • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked and the Scan Archives option is ticked.
  • Click on Advanced Settings, ensure the options

I have attempted to run ESETS 3X - each time, it makes it thru updates, but the laptop shuts off at about 25% of the scan.

Currently, it will not start at all (tried with both Startup Repair and Start Windows Normally) - I've had the Startup Repair start 3 x (I think), just to shut down before finishing.

Currently, Startup Repair is running. Got all the way to the end, and before I could press "finish", it rebooted itself and then shut off.

Reboot - blue screen.

I'm trying Strat Windows Normally agian, NOPE - blue screen.

Launching Startup Repair again.

spontaneously shut off again.

OK, have no idea why, but it started normally.

Perhaps it was MBAM - I turned off "protection" and will try to run it again.

OH- ESETS icon was gone when it rebooted....

Ran ESET - it spontaneously shut down.

ok - I MAY HAVE forgotten to "tick" "achives" the last 2 X - we'll see if that was the prob....

Nope - another shutdown in mid-run.

Hello, Gringo.

I did try to run the Kapersky program Wed night, however, forgot to reset the screensaver to not sleep and it got interrupted before finishiing.

Now, the Kid's have gone for a week to Florida. If they did not take the laptop with them, I will try to run it again when I stop by to check on the cat.

Otherwise, would you mind keeping this thread open until July 11th? Just in case?

Thanks!

(I will be posting a new, separate thread regarding our home desktop soon, too. These viruses are invading everything!)

Well, have been running the Kasspersky virus removal tool for 2 1/4 hrs, and it is only 7% done.

I have to go home and will not be able to get back until Wed (7/13) at the earliest.

I will ask the kids to allow this to run uninterrupted until finished and to save the report.

Thanks for everything, so far!
