What you do on a computer can greatly influence your budget it can greatly increase it or make it so you can afford this and that on top of the lap top.

So just general use?

Wont need a dedicated video card?

Here is this one: Dell - Inspiron Laptop / Intel® Core™ i5 Processor / 6GB Memory / 640GB Hard Drive - Mars Black - 749.99

I would start looking around for a Toshiba laptop, they make some high quality laptops.

Thanks, do you work for toshiba? The reason I ask is from reading other threads you always say toshiba. Or do you have other reasons?

No, i do not work for Toshiba but i have used and own Toshiba laptops before. Most of my family opt for a Toshiba laptop because of their endurance and quality.

I'm sorry, what does that have to do with price of tea in china? :P I can see when it comes to specs but I all ready know the specs I want I'm asking about what brand is better. I guess maybe you can suggest something with less specs that will do just as much. I'll be doing mostly the web, I try all kinds of utilities and software, remote control of friends and families computers, watch videos, tether my smart phone to it etc. I really do all kinds of different things with my computer.

Thanks again

What you want to do with the computer and the price range do matter because that may determine which brand we point you too. Some laptops are superior for mulitmedia editing and design, some for gaming, some to be workstation powerhouses. They're looking which ballpark you are aiming at to make recommendations. Otherwise all they had was there are some unrevealed specs desired, and then a rough budget. What the intended use is can still have an affect on what is recommended.

Yes, Alienware machines are intended for hardcore gaming. They are also not for those with a tight budget.

I thought Alienware went downhill after Dell, or whoever, bought them out?

Dell bought Alienware in 2006 and nothing else has changed.
