Greetings all~
I am having (as so many do) problems with computer speed. I ran a Hijack This and have a log and am wondering where to post to see if anyone can tell me what is on there that I don't need.
I have a Dell Dimension C521, bought about 4? years ago. I use firefox for browser. I added 2 memory cards and a graphics thingy (sorry, don't remember what it actually is) for the sake of an adobe flash game that I play. Which runs frustratingly slow. That is really my main interest in clearing up / speeding up my computer.
I use / have:
/ Malware Bytes
/ Spybot (usually get only 'Right Click')
/ Auslogics registry cleaner+ (have a subscription but dont' think I am using it to potential)
/ had Ad-Ware and removed it based on something someone said, and am wondering now if I should re-install it)
/Avast anti-virus (free version)
/Comcast connection at their second highest speed. 16 something / Only one speed higher, no one said for what I do, that I would need it, including other gamers.
Any help greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Barb

When I see the words slow computer and Comcast in the same post I always ask the following questions:
1) Do you have any Comcast software installed, specifically the Comcast toolbar? It can be very flaky, causing slow-down issues. If you do have it, uninstall and see if that helps speed up your computer. Included with the Comcast toolbar is Anti-Spyware Scanner powered by Computer Associates. You can remove this also if you don't use it.
2) What is the make and model of your Comcast modem? Check to see if it is listed as End-of-Life. You can find that info here
http://mydeviceinfo.comcast.net/
If you don't see your modem listed, check the box next to Show End-Of-Life Devices. If your device is listed as EOL you should replace it by exchanging it at a Comcast office or by purchasing your own.
