Email acct sent spam

My yahoo account sent spam to my contacts list twice. I can see the spam in the Sent folder. The second time, the machine I thought would have been infected was either in hibernate or turned off.

I didn't get to change my pwd until after the second send. None so far today ...
and my mail.com acct didn't spam . . .?

Avast is up to date, and full scan was clean.
Malware bytes scan was clean too.

Was my machine compromised -and pwds captured - or just my yahoo account?

Would whatever this was / is capture pwds to other sites like paypal, amazon, ccards, boards, or just looking for e-mail?

I'm typically a safe surfer, and can't think of anything unusual I recently hit ...
