Antimalware doctor

It's been several days since I last posted instructions for you to complete. Do you still require assistance in getting your computer cleaned up?
Please Note: Unless notified in advance, threads with no response in 3 days get closed.
If for any reason you cannot complete instructions within that time, that's fine, just put a post here so that I know you're still here. We get a lot of people who simply leave & if there is no contact for that amount of time I will have to assume you have abandoned your topic.
Thanks,
SweetTech.

The instructions seen in this post have been specifically tailored to this user and the issues they are experiencing with their computer. If you think you have a similar problem, please first read this topic, and then begin your own, new thread. I do not offer private support via Private Message.

Yes, I definately still need assistance. This morning I did a google image search (for a celcius/farenheit comparison chart ...not the kind of thing i'd expect to get a virus from). I clicked on an image and a fake virus scanner poped up. Ctrl-Alt-Delete was blocked, so i immediately shut down. I went into safe mode and did a system restore. I went back 2 days (one day AFTER the last logs were maade that i posted to you) Things seem to be okay after that. Maybe the combofix log will tell you something? I'm hoping we dont' have to start this process again. The start of this problem with Antimalware doctor occurred after clicking on an image from a google image search as well. Is there a way to protect from this?
Anyhow, the Combofix log, after the system restore is below. I ESET scan was taking a long time (30 min and about 29% into the scan). I stopped it and will have to run it in the morning and post it to you then.
I apologise for this taking so long. I do very much appreciate your assistance and will try to post at least daily from now on.
thanks.

The best way to protect this type of thing is by practicing safe browsing, and having a good anti-virus and firewall program.

From the looks of your SecurityCheck log, I can see that we have some outdated programs that need to be updated.
Lets address those programs that need updating now!
Your SecurityCheck log indicates that your version of Flash Player is outdated. This is a vulnerability that needs to be addressed. Please remove the outdated version of Flash Player and then install the latest version.
Java Outdated
Important Note: Your version of Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system.
- Microsoft: ‘Unprecedented Wave of Java Exploitation’
- Drive-by Trojan preying on out-of-date Java installations
- Ghosts of Java Haunt Users
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
- Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 and save it to your desktop.
- Look for "Java Platform, Standard Edition".
- Click the "Download JRE" button to the right.
- Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
- From the list, select your OS and Platform.
- 32-bit Select: Windows x86 Offline.
- 64-bit Select: Windows x64.
- 32-bit Select: Windows x86 Offline.
- If a download for an Offline Installation is available, it is recommended to choose that and save the file to your desktop.
- Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to
> Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features in Vista/Windows 7 and remove all older versions of Java.- Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
- Click the Remove or Change/Remove button and follow the onscreen instructions for the Java uninstaller.
- Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
- Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
- Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u25-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
- If using Windows 7 or Vista and the installer refuses to launch due to insufficient user permissions, then Run As Administrator.
- When the Java Setup - Welcome window opens, click the Install > button.
- If offered to install a Toolbar, just uncheck the box before continuing unless you want it.
- The McAfee Security Scan Plus tool is installed by default unless you uncheck the McAfee installation box when updating Java.
-- Starting with Java 6u10, the uninstaller incorporated in each new release uses Enhanced Auto update to automatically remove the previous version when updating to a later update release. It will not remove older versions, so they will need to be removed manually.
-- Java is updated frequently. If you want to be automatically notified of future updates, just turn on the Java Automatic Update feature and you will not have to remember to update when Java releases a new version.
Note: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications but it's not necessary.
To disable the JQS service if you don't want to use it:
- Go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter.
- Click Ok and reboot your computer.

1) Flash player has been updated
2) old versions of Java have been removed. Newest version installed
3) I installed Window XP service pack 3.
Question: I had service pack 2 already installed. Your notes said to have SP1 or 1a installed prior to installing SP3. Since I had SP2 installed already, I assumed (hopefully not incorrectly) that i was okay to install SP3. After I installed SP3, I realized that your instructions said nothing of SP2 and that i just assumed if I had SP2 installed all the updates with SP1 must be on my computer as well. My computer seems to be running fine, but thought i'd check with you before i went any further. Do i need to go back and install SP1?
thanks

I went to Windows update and installed the critical updates. It didn't accept my MS office CD when i was prompted to put it in, I hit "cancel" and the installation continued. I dialog box at the end of installation said that MS Office SP3 was not installed. After installation, upon trying to open an MSWord doc I was asked for the MS Office prodcut key. I typed in my key, but got a dialog box that said the key was invalid. Since I couldn't open any Office documents I restored back to prior to the updates.
So...currently I have Windows SP3 installed, but NOT the updates. Is there a way to install the updates and keep office running? Should I uninstall MS Office and then reinstall it? or just continue with your instructions.
Much thanks,

-Well ...ummm ...you got me there. At this point however, I'm sure your tech expertise are best applied to legit programs. If this means that i should just uninstall the current copy of MS Office and go from there I'm happy to do so. Please advise.
