I went to turn on my Inspiron 1501 yesterday and nothing ... I tried again, and noticed the dvd drive comes on, and the power light, but nothing happens. The screen stays black, and i get not beeps or anything. I have read that the inspirons have an issue with hybernate mode, which i recently decided to start trying!(dumb@$$ i am) So i tried a couple of tricks like holding the power button for 1 min, or removing the battery and ac adapter and pressing the power key.
From futher research it seems to be 2 issues, a dead motherboard, or a dead hard drive. both are fatal and suck equally, but how can i find out officially which it is? i had a hd to usb adaptor but the modern laptop hd's are a different pin set or something and do not fit!
ill take any suggestions besides to buy a new one, because that is a no brainer, lol

Have you tried connecting it to a external monitor?
