Do you allow the chkdsk to run to completion?

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

You want to run chkdsk /r as follows:

Right-click on a command prompt icon and open as administrator. In the command prompt window type:chkdsk /r (then press ENTER). You'll be told the disk is in use and asked if you want to run checkdisk on the next boot. Say yes, exit the command prompt window, and reboot.

"The driver detected a controller error" leads me to believe that its not a hard drive issue at all.
You might want to reseat the hard drive.

Whats the make/model of the system and what version of Windows?
In the beginning there was the command line.

IMO, some hard drive controller errors are the result of input/output problems...so you may want to change cables, check connections, etc.
