Asus Need Advice

I am looking for a decent desktop to use for work and game on some. It has been a while since I had a PC desktop, I had an I-Mac in college. I went to best buy and spoke with a guy who seemed to be pretty knowledgable and recommended these computers? Asus
HP DOes anyone have any suggestions or anything they think would be a better choice?

Their both good choices, the ASUS computer slightly more so then the HP due to the fact it has a phenon Quad core compared to an athlon II quad core, as well as 2 gigs more ram, it will perform better and will be better for gaming. Other then that, Id say you cant go wrong either way. graphics wise, the cards on both are integrated, and lousy at that, the HP has a slightly better graphics card, but either way you go if you plan on doing any serious gaming the graphics card will have to be upgraded.

I would buy the HP desktop because of the graphics and 4GB of ram is sufficient.

You do realize that a store bought computer be it from HP or Acer or Asus, can and likely will have
similar parts no matter the name on the box? Often you will find the exact same cpu/motherboard in
the HP line of Pavilions and the Gateway of what ever name they call it this week. You should not look
at the name on the box, but the list of PARTS IN THE BOX.
You want:

1. the CPU AMD or Intel (measured in GHZ and more is better)
2. the system ram or DDR2 or DDR3 again more is better
3. the video card if any, or if it is on-board video
4. storage(hard drive or drives) SSD are fast but small, usually backed up with a old style mechanical
typically at least a terabyte for storage

narrow down your wants and needs for these components before you shop for pretty sales pictures

Not always the case but the actual quality of the laptop matters.

ya, in most cases killer is right, the parts are not the same. For example, ASUS laptops for example use ASUS motherboards, HP typically, uses ASUS boards as well. Some years you see them with MSI, but usually theyre ASUS or foxconn. Gateway, for example, is almost exclusively, ECS motherboads, which are complute junk. But you also need to keep customer service in mind-HP is one of the better ones out their for customer service that Ive seen.
