I was always under the assumption that the antenna on wireless routers did both send and receive, however I am beginning to question my original thought. If a router has multiple antenna is one used for sending data and one for receiving?
I have this D-Link Router -- http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=530 which has 3 antenna. Now there is an extra antenna in the mix of this equation. Do I need to go through the legwork of trying to figure out which of these antenna's is doing the sending and which is doing the receiving or are all 3 antenna doing both?

We have family that lives directly next door around 100 meters away and I want to install an amplifier to extend the range and try to get the wireless signal to the other house. I don't really want to purchase 2 amplifiers and definitely do not want to purchase 3. Anyone have some insights or suggestions?

I was thinking of using this product as I have read pretty decent reviews on it -- http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/productlist.php?CatID=32&FamID=72&ProdID=187 -- of course I would replace the stock antenna with a 15dBi
