OK After 3-4 boot ups I finally did a huge update. Problem did not go away. I still get freeze ups and all open apps shut down. This happens with ALL the apps. How do I go about renaming Firefox profile? Also, how do I reinstall Ubuntu or factory reset it?

bigdog..... did you get the wallpaper uninstalled as raw suggested?

A question for clarification - do the freeze-ups occur when Firefox is not open? One other thing, be sure and save anything you don't want to lose in the event a fresh install becomes necessary. I just have a gut feeling that something is running in the background, and your system can't handle the additional apps.

A question for raw - do you think it would help to have him run some clean-up programs such as - Residual Config ( in SPM ), Autoclean, Deb Orphan, Bleachbit ..... and so on? If I'm understanding this thread correctly, it's sounding like a system, not Firefox problem. I may be missing something here.

Yes freezups occur without Firefox running. I will try again but I believe this to me the case. I changed the wallpaper to the one that system had pre-installed. I don't ahve an option of removing wallpaper. Once again, I will see if that is an option.

Thanks for letting me know that info bigdog. I'm waiting right now to see what raw thinks about running some clean-up stuff, just want to make sure before I recommend it. Hang in there :thumbup2:

Thanks. i did try again, and the result is the same. It is small computer, designed primarily for school children as it is loaded with educational software. I tried to run a simple game like "Hangman" and it froze at some point, I even disabled wireless to see if that is potential problem, and it did not help. I looked at my wallpapers and there is no option to remove them. Once other thing, the desktop themes have 2 options: Dell and Ubuntu. I have been using Dells all along. So when crash occurs, that desktop seem to disappear completely and I have to reboot to get it back. I do see the "task bar", but not the Dell desktop.

Thank you for your help. I will be awaiting further suggestions, as I am 85% unfamiliar with Linux.
