Freeze on F1 continue, F2 setup BIOS Battery hasn't worked in forever, now stuck on startup!

Hola! This is my first post. I have a Dell Studio, and I am running Windows Vista. My battery has been out of commission for about a year now, and I have always received a prompt to notify me of this as soon as the BIOS loads. This screen says "Press F1 to continue. F2 to run setup utility." Normally, I would simply press F1, and Windows Vista would begin to load. Now, however, when I press the F1 key, nothing happens. The entire system freezes and makes that God-awful, high-pitched "Don't touch me again" noise when I continue to strike the key. As this is the first screen that I encounter, I am at a loss for how to do just about anything about it. I can, however, access BIOS setup. I have already reset them, and this has yielded no change. Please help me to figure out how to fix my computer. It's only good as a thousand dollar paperweight at the moment. Thanks, guys!

I would be willing to bet that your keyboard port is broken or is shorting out. How new is it?

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

swap out your RAM, if you have more than 1 stick try taking one out, if it still doesn't work then stick it back in and pull the other(s) out. Odds are if it is a RAM related issue, no more than one stick will have gone bad.

Sorry for the late reply, but I never received an email notification that my topic had been commented on. I don't have an external keyboard at the moment, but, no doubt, I will be looking for one ASAP. Also, I will look into the RAM suggestion as well. Are there any cardinal sins of computers that I should be aware of when removing a stick of RAM? Thanks so much for the help.
