i think that if it has to run in normal mode it probably wont work, nothing seems to want to work in normal mode. i will try to get into normal mode now and see what happens.

i wanted to add as well that if i keep having trouble im probably going to start looking for another used computer. i guess another option would be to take out the hard drive that im trying to work with now and go back to the one that was having system recovery issues (the hard drive that was originally in this computer) and see if that can be worked with and fixed maybe?

Those two options remain.

Yes, I can guess that your patience would be wearing thin by now. There is no guarantee that we are going to be successful here.

I think if we could get the setup file to run successfully from the "nvidia" folder on your Desktop, things would be looking much better (BTW ... if you get the chance, please try and run it when/if you get Windows Normal Mode running). I don't understand the "access denied" message when attempting to run setup, and can't help wondering if it needs to be run in Normal Mode rather than Safe Mode (but I would not have thought so).

Another option that might also do the trick, is if we could get to Windows Updates and download/install the necessary software for your hardware. Again, needs to be done in Normal Mode.

Then again, we could struggle on trying to install drivers for each device from the "nivida" folder individually, but that is a hit-miss approach. It might be worth one more try to find the smbus device and get the drivers for that installed?

i hope that is done correctly...i had to try a couple times. the first time i booted into normal mode everything froze. the second time i was able to get through this. its still taking a very long time for firefox to pop up and for things to get going.

nope, still getting an access denied error. that error pops up right away when its at 2% and then when i click the "x" or "ok" for that error, it goes away and then the install does seem to continue but i cancel it because i figure its probably not going to work properly if that error was there at the start, even if it does continue..

Try continuing with the install and see what happens. You might be able to get some of the remaining drivers installed?

Speccy reports only Service Pack 2 on the system, so that rules out using Windows Updates, since you would require Service Pack 3 to be installed before Windows Updates would talk to you.

well, i ran the installation of the drivers. that error at the start was the only one i had. i had to restart after i installed everything and when i did, things froze up. it stalled at the blue welcome screen for a while before going to the desktop and then when it did, i couldnt do anything..when i would move the cursor over the start button or the blue task bar it was an hour glass (and stayed that way), so i couldnt click on anything. so i tried restarting from the task manager, and it got hung up so i had to shut it down via the power button and start again. when i did that things loaded up (im in normal mode at the moment) and there are a couple things that popped up in the tray, NVIDIA Settings and nForce Tray Options. its still taking a really long time to get anything going, just to get firefox to pop up takes a minute or 2. things dont seem to be working much differently after running the installation of the drivers.

im going to call it a night for now though. i will check in tomorrow to see if you have any more ideas, Thanks again! :)

Well, at least that seemed to work alright, and I am thinking it was only the nvidia display driver that had the problem.

However, things are still not looking any better at your end by the sound of it.

Sleep well ... til tomorrow then.

Be patient and allow a little time for the system to adjust and sort itself out/do what it has to do ...

Give the system a bit of use, shut it down/start it up ... and let me know how it is behaving today.

Are the multimedia devices successfully installed now? Do you have sound?

This is the same computer I have. Mine will not start either and I have a noisy fan as well. It also was getting slower over time. TodayI turned it on and less then half a hour later everything frooze and it started beeping. I can not get it to do anytihng now and the screen wil lnot even come on. Kinda odd that I am not the only one with this problem or something that sounds very similar.

No worries. Good luck with your "new" system. Sorry we didn't have more success.
