BleepingComputer.com: Installing Google Earth blocked by my windows installer

Maybe I have to register the ATL70.dll and I suppose that can be worked out. Am I on the right track?

Do you have your XP CD so you can do a sfc /scannow check and reinstall any missing .dlls ?
Also try a disk check with this code to repair any minor issues. Close all programs and copy / paste this into Run box and click OK.

CMD /C ECHO Y|CHKDSK C: /R | SHUTDOWN /R /T 30

Your computer will shut down in 30 seconds then reboot in what seems to be safe mode and then run the full 5 stage check.
Allow an hour or so for the check and then it will reboot back to normal mode. Do not turn off or try to cancell the check.

Also if you have partially loaded Earth then delete it first prior to trying again -
