Hi! I was looking to buy a PC with good enough spec to compose, produce, record music etc. I was wondering if anyone could help me to pick the right parts. I need to ensure that it is fast, and effective. I intend to use it for some gaming, but not much, as it's primary purpose would be for music.

I have come up with a rudimentary build, but if anyone could help find any conflicts, or even better, suggest a cheap, but good alternative, that would be great.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Id get a 7200RPM Drive and a Antec 900 Case for better cooling / upgrade ability.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

I suggest getting a better sound card if you are making music. I would go for the Xonar D2 or the Xonar D2X. They have a few more features and connections. They are pricey, but they are pro-sumer cards. Don't forget, you also need the operating system.

This will affect some considerations - as will what production software you plan to use. Running 32 bit limits program memory allocation to 2GB, so a 64 bit OS & compatible software is advisable, making at least 6GB of RAM desirable. Also if possible consider aiming for a quad-core CPU, even at loss of clock speed. Music production software really does benefit from multi-core operation more than sheer clock speed.

I pressed F5, and I'm feeling refreshed...

Hitachi hard drives aren't that good, you should get this hard drive.

I use a Hitachi drive, it is holding up well. I would prefer a Western Digital drive first.

It's nickname was the deathstar... back when IBM still made the drive in 2000. I use a Travelstar in my PS3, it is working well. Don't worry about it, I don't believe there are any serious issues with current Hitachi hard drive SKU's.

The travelstar is not to bad, i bought it for my auntie's laptop but the temperature goes up to 50C sometimes, but i still prefer WD

Mod EDIT: Please...stay focused on the thread and skip the debate over hard drive preference. I'm sure that the OP isn't interested in your preferences/biases and opinions (which are off-target)..thanks ~ Hamluis.
