BleepingComputer.com: Asus P5L-MX graphics issue

I just got a nice home-build from a brother-in-law that was not being used because his video card died. Rather than replace the card, he bought an Alienware (must be nice, right?). So, he told me everything else would be fine, and that the board has onboard graphics. He did not say whether or not the onboard had been disabled in BIOS, so I plugged it in and turned it on, and it comes on fine, runs quietly, smoothly, all that I expected, except it has no picture. I connected it to an old Dell CRT monitor, and it wouldn't even turn the status light green, the monitor stayed in standby. I guess I am wondering how would I go about accessing BIOS to setup the graphics, and if it won't give me an image, if I can somehow flash the BIOS with a thumb drive. Any help, advice, or questions about any necessary further info are welcome. I will do my best to tell you the specs, I only know the motherboard model as of now.

try reseting the CMOS. There is normally a jumper with a pin that you move when the computer is turned off that will do it, if not, simply remove the CMOS battery (it looks like a watch battery for 30 seconds to a minute while the computer is turned off, and replace. it should reset the BIOS to defaults and allow you to boot up the integrated card. Also note, make sure you remove the aftermarket card first, if there is a card in the PCI express lane, regardless of whether it works or not, the computer will try to boot to that.

So I tried both battery removal and using the jumper to reset the BIOS, to no avail. The PC doesn't even seem to be sending a signal to my monitor. Maybe I should just take it to a shop and let them deal with it.

Im assuming you removed the dedicated video card before hooking up the integrated, it is very possible that the video card wasnt the issue to begin with. Do you have another computer to test the dedicated card in to make sure?

My other computer uses PCI video cards, this obviously uses a PCI-E card. I actually have a PCI-E card in the system, not the one that was "defective". I think the issue is something else. I simply cannot get the box to send a signal to my monitor. This computer hasn't been plugged in for over 4 years until Sunday night.

well, then have you tried the integrated?

I`m a bit confused as to just which video output you are plugging into?

I tried the integrated first. I (physically) installed the video card that's in there now AFTER I first posted to this forum. After I installed it, I tried the integrated again, to no avail. The card only has dual DVI out, so I am waiting until Tuesday for my DVI>VGA adapter to arrive. I am about to unseat the RAM, re-seat it, and see if that was the problem. I have reset the BIOS, tried everything I know to try, and the box still will not send a signal to my monitor. It doesn't even let me get to the BIOS. It sends my monitor into standby mode.
