Having trouble with my computer. It froze and when I restarted it, I got an error that said: ccc.exe Application Error. It disappears after 30 seconds or so and says a different Thread number like this: 0x4f0 (1246) Not sure what to do to fix this. My desktop is white and has no files accessible. I try to go into Documents and Settings to look at my computer's main user folder and nothing displays, but it says there are over 135 MBs in the folder. Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I open Task Manager to see what files aren't running and MoM and CCC are no longer running, if that's any help. I know this has to be something conflicting with my driver, but I've re-installed my ATI drivers and I still can't get it to work.

Remove catalyst Control Center it is notorious for causing system issues.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

I am finally able to see my desktop folders. They were made 'Hidden'. What would do that?

I looked under my list of programs and catalyst Control Center isn't there.

So something triggered your desktop folders to be hidden. Do you recall any sort of advertisement pop ups about speeding up your computer or saying your computer is infected?

Nope, nothing. It was frozen and when it restarted, it was like this.

That's odd.
Try to boot into safe mode with networking or just safe mode and see if you'll get an error, or your screen will still be white.
You can follow this step if you do not know how to get into safe mode.

Rebooted in Safe Mode, got no error. But now that I've rebooted in normal mode, Catalyst Control Center has appeared on my task bar, the CCC error not popping up, but my desktop behind the task bar is still inaccessible and the start menu still has no programs other than the few I marked as unhidden and one I just downloaded-HiJackThis.

A small note, I have never had this version of CCC before. I do not recognize it. I don't know how it appeared on my computer.

Please follow the instructions in ==>This Guide<==.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it ==>HERE<== Please include the link to this topic in your new topic and a description of your computer issues and what you have done to resolve them.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

Once you have created the new topic, please reply back here with a link to the new topic.

My work schedule is as follows: Mon and Tues 1800 to 0600, Friday - Sunday 1800EST to 0600, and Wednesday to Thursday 1800est to 0600. So if I do not respond right away I am at work.

Ok, I removed everything ATI from my computer and the Registry and reinstalled the correct ATI without the CCC. So the ATI icon I know is back in my taskbar, but I still have an inaccessible desktop and no user information in my start menu.

Hello,

Now for the difficult and frustrating part: waiting.

Now that you have posted a log, you should NOT make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a MRT Team member, nor should you ask for help elsewhere. Doing so can result in system changes which may not show in the log you already posted. Further, any modifications you make on your own may cause confusion for the helper assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.

From this point on the MRT Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean.

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the MRT Team members are EXTREMELY busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the MRT Team. Generally the staff checks the forum for postings that have 0 replies as this makes it easier for them to identify those who have not been helped. If you post another response there will be 1 reply. A team member, looking for a new log to work may assume another MRT Team member is already assisting you and not open the thread to respond.

Please be patient. It may take several days to get a response but your log will be reviewed and answered as soon as possible. I advise checking your topic once a day for responses as the e-mail notification system is unreliable.

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic. Good luck with your log.
