I have a hard drive with Win XP and PCLinuxOS (Dec 2010) on it. I can't get past the boot screen. What I have on my screen is:

GRUB Loading Stage1.5.

GRUB loading, please wait ...
Error 17

I had been wanting to uninstall PCLOS and try Mint anyway. If I follow the directions for uninstalling Ubuntu found here , like I did previously when uninstalling an old version of Mint from a dual boot drive, should that work for PCLOS too? Will this Error 17 make uninstalling difficult, or have no effect?

Thanks a lot.

Hello again floridaze,

You should be able to run your PCLinux Live CD and as root use the Redo MBR function
Found In the Menu List under More Applications>Configuration>Redo MBR

Take a look at the information in the link that I have provided
it should give you some incite into what has occurred and how to fix it.

Yes the method that is described within the link that you provided should
should be sufficient to remove PCLinux.

Good luck on your adventure Mint.

Thanks, as always!

But wait! There's more! (It may belong in a new thread ... let me try one more thing before posting.)
