Who's the manufacturer of your computer? HP, Dell, Acer, etc.

You have some system files that are damaged. We need to get them replaced with the correct ones. I'd like to have you try and contact Toshiba, and see if they can help you out with the disk issue.

I have not tried contacting Toshiba yet. The last time we fixed this computer, we sent it to a friend, and when he sent it back, the desktop background said, "Microsoft Windows XP, Pirated Edition" with a pirate skull and crossbones. I thought it was just a humorous image he had loaded on, but I finally looked up, "pirated edition" and see that he may have loaded that on. I'm going to contact him to see what he did. If it is the pirated edition, does that affect our next step?

Yes and No. I tend to follow a policy of not assisting users who have a pirated version of Windows, but I do make exceptions in cases like yours where it was done by a friend without your knowledge, so I'm not going to abandon you, don't worry. But it may make things a little more difficult.

I think you should contact your friend and see what they did, and then report back to me, we will have a better idea of where we stand then.

Hello! I still have not heard from my friend. I just sent him another email. Maybe I'll call him tomorrow. Sorry for another delay!
