BleepingComputer.com: deleting the new version of unbuntu

I accidentally installed a version update. I got an error at the first start up that said something about hardware. (Celeron 2.4ghz, 1gig RAM 80g HR with 500g External). after i got the error it would freeze very quickly and i would have to manually turn the compute off. I quickly just reinstalled the version i had on a disk. We'll long story short i believe i partioned a partion. At the startup after BIOS i have basically 3 choices. Unbuntu 2.6.35.28 which is the one that works or Unbuntu 2.6.38.8 the one that doesn't and of course Windows. is there a way to say select one of these and go into command line or prompt or is there a better way to undo what i did or delete the version of unbuntu that doesn't work.

Start up the one that works. Then open a terminal and copy and paste this command:
sudo apt-get remove --purge 2.6.38.8-*

You will be asked for your password and at some point you will be asked to continue by entering y. Choose to continue.

Sorry. i'm still a little new to unbuntu, how do i open up a terminal to paste the command?

Applications>Accessories>Terminal

it said that "E: Couldn't find any package by regex '2.6.38.8'

Which Windows is installed?

xp sp3

You can follow the directions given in the link below for removing the Ubuntu partitions and returning your
computer to the state it was in before installing Ubuntu.

thank you buddy215 for all your help. this should work for me just fine.

If I may add something here, another way to open a terminal is CTRL-ALT-t The reason I mention it is that it helped my a short while back. I was playing around with settings and lost both my top and bottom panels, no way to do anything. By being able to open a terminal I could enter Gnome-panel and get to where I wanted to go.

Just some info in case anyone else should find themselves in that situation.
