Is it true that you should only update drivers that don't work and should you also only get drivers from your computer manufacturers website?
Is it different for Laptops and Desktop drivers?

Only update drivers when there is a specific reason or need to do so. Laptop drivers should be obtained only from the website of the laptop manufacturer (they are highly customized for the specific laptops). Desktop drivers should be obtained from the oem websites of the specific hardware manufacturers. NEVER get drivers from Windows Update
