BleepingComputer.com: Popups, cant change start up programs, can't update security essentials

Hi,

Lots of issues here. First of all I keep getting reinfected somehow with different viruses. Im running pretty much all good freeware antivirus/spyware/malware tools(Online Armor, Malware Bytes, Security Essentials, SuperAntiSpyware). In the last few weeks probably removed damn near 15 viruses. As I said i keep getting reinfected (Dont know how). Only websites I really go to are facebook, and reading online. Also I get bombarded by cookie requests in firefox, with an ocasional redirect. My microsoft security essentials wont fully update. And I got a little red icon in my taskbar that says windows update is turned off(via windows security alerts). Im not sure where the hole is at, I thought it might be because of running windows xp. Need some expert help to clean this out fully and also advice on what to do to avoid reinfection.

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. It will be a randomly named executable.

• Double click the exe file.
  
• If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run scan...click on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan.

• In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are unchecked
  • IAT/EAT
    
  • Drives/Partition other than Systemdrive (typically C:\)
    
  • Show All (don't miss this one)

• Once done click on the [Save..] button, and in the File name area, type in "Gmer.txt" or it will save as a .log file which cannot be uploaded to your post.
  
  
• Save it where you can easily find it, such as your desktop, and attach it in reply.

**Caution**
Rootkit scans often produce false positives. Do NOT take any action on any "<--- ROOKIT" entries

• Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.

As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.

• Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.

**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

• Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:

• Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.

When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

• Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  
• ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.

• Please open your MalwareBytes AntiMalware Program
  
• Click the Update Tab and search for updates
  
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  
• Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  
• The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
  
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. <-- very important
  
• When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
  
• The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  
• Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.

Extra Note:If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately.

Go here to run an online scanner from ESET.

• Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
  
• Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  
• Click Start
  
• When asked, allow the activeX control to install
  
• Click Start
• Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked and the Scan Archives option is ticked.
  
• Click on Advanced Settings, ensure the options Scan for potentially unwanted applications, Scan for potentially unsafe applications, and Enable Anti-Stealth Technology are ticked.
  
• Click Scan
  
• Wait for the scan to finish
  
• When the scan completes, press the LIST OF THREATS FOUND button
  
• Press EXPORT TO TEXT FILE , name the file ESETSCAN and save it to your desktop
  
• Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  
• Press the BACK button.
  
• Press Finish

more than one antivirus can cause system crashes, slowdowns and conflicts causing less protection, not more, you also appear to have two installations of MSSE, not sure why it is showing that way? Does it seem to be functioning properly?

Pick one antivirus and uninstall the other two.
