Alright, this pc definitely has something wrong. I cannot run the ram test because it again just sits at a black screen. Also, what is with Toshiba's website? I cannot find the list of drivers. Just a bunch of random junk.

Ok, I found the diagnostic utility from them.

Are you sure you're booting to the cd? Does the memory test start?

Yes, I am sure and it does not start. I tell it to boot the test in the menu but it doesn't.

I don't understand. Does it boot to the cd and do you see the test program on the cd?

It boots and there are 12 options. the 6th one is a ram test so you put in 6 then enter. so I saw it loading the files then it just sat at a black screen.

Okay, gotcha. Well, it could be ram, the cpu, the hd, the mobo - pretty much anything. But it certainly does sound like a hardware issue. Not sure what else we can do on the forum for you.

What I don't get though is that I can boot slax off my flash drive and the PC will run just fine. doesn't that seem odd?

Yes it does. But the fact that you can't run the diagnostics isn't good. You can still try doing it the way I suggested (memtest) and see what happens. I guess there's a chance your diagnostic cd is somehow corrupt.

Well there is nothing wrong with the ram. I am going to get the HDD test working and run it.
