Hi....I can't get my ScanDisk to fully run and repair any problems I might have
It keeps restarting, then I get a message that its tried 10 times. I was going to run it in safe mode
but the message said it could damage my video drive or something. I am not
sure what to try now
Thank you
and Happy New Year
Denise

ScanDisk should ideally be ran in safe mode, along with defrag. What error message are you getting? Could you quote it word for word please?

Hi DeniseM and Acklan
First, Happy New Year

I got the same problem as described by Denise My PC is running Windows 98 and y canīt realice any ScanDisk nor defrag of "C". I got a partition of the HD called "D" and here the ScanDisk is functioning OK. What could be the problem?.

Thanks for any help

When I try to scan in safe mode I get this error message:

If you run MS-DOS program in safe mode, you risk corrupting the
video display or experiencing other anomalties. Do you want to run
the program anyway?
Yes or No

Thanks!

DeniseM what programs are starting with your computer? Look in Start>Run>MSconfig>Startup(tab). You may have a conflict interferring with the normal shut down.

I'm not super-savvy about some computer works, but I did learn this about running, say, Disc Defrag,--you have to close all open program in your system tray (the teeny icons in your bottom right corner) Right click on each one and close or disable them. This makes it work much faster. The system tray programs open again when you reboot the next time.
I don't know if this applies to Scandisk, but I know the above works with Defrag.

You are correct Marebare but all programs do not always show it the taskbar. That is why were recommend you run defrag and scandisk from Safe Mode. Most drivers and programs do not start automaticily in safe mode.
That was a very good point you made.
