xp cant support primary partitions over 2tb but supposedly it can see large drives when they are set to dynamic and mounted externally. but how does one convert a large disk or a raid set to dynamic when the computer cant see the disk??

None of my business...but I have to ask...just why anyone would want a system/Windows partition to be larger than is really necessary?

Doing such...imperils everything on that partition if you develop problems...and we all know that there will be problems :), sooner or later...where the partition may become damaged, the hard drive becomes problematical, Windows becomes damaged, or malware intrudes.

Not to mention the trouble that a user would have running malware scans, chkdsk /r, or defragging.

Smaller is better if one wants to minimize potential losses, IMO.
