I shutdown my computer over the weekend and it didn't shutdown completely. So, I pulled the plug and did a "cold" boot and received a blue screen with checkdsk running. It got to the 3rd part when it started "REPLACING INVALID SECURITY ID's", not knowing what was going on I automatically rebooted and skipped the blue screen checkdsk check.

Since then I have had no - Task Bar with Start button.

THINGS I CAN DO --
Access my window icons
Access INTERNET via Firefox

THINGS I Can't do --
1.)Restore the task bar with Ctrl - ESC or run a taskbar restore program. Running explorer.exe only gets the explorer page without a task bar.
2.)System Restore -- can't access task bar to run it. (Start-Accessories-- ect. ect)
3.)Can't restore in safe mode because my SYSTEM RESTORE IS TURNED OFF. I try to turn i back but I encounter an error with a prompt to reboot. (not sure why its turned off)
4.) I have no sound.
5.) Cut/paste doesn't work. Just the paste part.
6.) Reboot from boot CD. I get an error 0X000007B.

That's all for now. I hope someone has an easy fix. Thanks for reading my thread.

Can you use copy rt click? If so, try this fix from Kelly's Korner: Restore Taskbar and Start Menu (#117) http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Try running the chkdsk /r command from the XP Recoeery Console, if you have a MS Genuine XP CD.

Chkdsk /r is a 5-stage process.

You should never stop chkdsk when it's attempting to repair file damage or files that are incorrect, IMO.

Can't get IE to run to run the Kelly's corner tip. Hmmmmmm.....
Was able to complete the chkdsk/r task. It took a while and it corrected 1 error. After a reboot, I'm back to the same problems I had before.

Also, discovered in Outlook Express 6.0 when sending emails I get an out of memory error.

Any more suggestions.....

Sounds like you may need to do a repair install or reinstall of the OS, IMO.

I'm confused? The fix needs to be copied to notepad and saved as a .reg file and then run. Try one (or both) of these, also from Kelly's Korner: Restore Desktop Icons and Taskbar (download VBS file, #195 right side) http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
