Me and my father spent a whole Sunday trying to come up with some solution to the problem, by the end of the day my dad gave in and bought Spyware Doctor to remove the virus. After the virus was removed from the computer we rebooted and the whole computers directory was either corrupted, or scattered. We performed a system restore from the boot menu to get the program files to actually open. It seemed after that long day of virus super hero fighting that the worst was over. I was wrong.
The next week my mom's laptop (HP Somthing) which she works off of, and builds websites for clients, gets a nasty virus. It basically hides every program on your computer and prompts you to use a fake 'windows restore option, but first you must buy it.' type deal. My father spent another Sunday restoring the computer and getting rid of the virus. The next day my dad's laptop which i am using gets the "Vista Antivirus 2011" again. At this point im going insane. I used an availble computer in the house and got the install transfered to a USB Stick for "Spybot Search & Destroy" Which i know is a great defense against maleware.
After an hour of scanning with Spybot, it found infections and got rid of them. Two days later my sister's laptop becomes infected with "Vista Antivirus 2011" so i decided to try the route that i did with my dad's laptop, and used Spybot. After an hour of scanning the virus was gone on my sisters laptop. Man i know this is a long post, but please hang in there guys, i need help.
I haven't had Vista Antivirus on my dad's computer since, and i beleive its beacuase im using spybot as my firewall, and virus protection. Basically b/c the virus is not allowing me to turn on Windows Defender, and i cannot install windows updates. They all fail. If it couldnt get any worse, my 2nd sister's computer gets infected with the same virus my mom had, which hides all programs. Still havent begun to deal with that bugger yet.
For almost a year now we have had the "Redirect Virus" and i say it is in our router, my Dad says it isnt. But the first day i borrowed my dad's laptop, i did notice Windows Defender was turned off, and I didn't do anything about it, b/c it is his laptop after all. I think he turned it off b/c he bought Trend Micro Pc-illin as a firewall, and virus protection. Well by the time i got on the laptop, Trend Micro had run out of a subscription and isn't updating. So i think that my dad's laptop had no firewall basically up and running, and I was redirected to a site loaded with maleware using a search engine, and my dad's computer ate it up like candy.
I also have a theory that whoever makes Vista Antivirus 2011, also makes all the others i have encountered, and the Vista antivirus 2011, changes its name every time you get it. But still i cannot wrap my head around, why the hell every computer on our wireless network has been infected with these chains of virus's. The only reason my dad hasn't got a virus on his main desktop computer, is probably b/c he has a nice firewall set up, or somthing along those lines.
Someone if you have any ideas on what to do, I want to try to restore my router to factory settings, just haven't gotten the help for that yet. And i think that even after we reset the router, we will possibly need to re- format each computer infected? just to make sure they are cleaned out. My mom's computer was reformated and cleaned out, but a day later after the re formation she gets vista antivirus 2011. So i do think the slu of viruses are hiding in my router, inside the redirct virus possibly.
Again i would so appreciate it if i could get some help here, i want to rip my hair out. BTW if your wondering im 16 years old.
