When posting your problem, do not run and post a ComboFix log. ComboFix is a tool that should only be run under the supervision of someone who has been trained in its use. Using it on your own can cause problems with your computer. Any posts containing CF Logs will be ignored.

To receive help, you should instead provide a detailed description of your problem, detailed word-for-word error messages that you are receiving, screenshots of strange behaviour, and your operating system. This information is much more useful to our helpers than a ComboFix log.

Been trying to help my Dad get his computer working. Old Emachine desktop running Windows XP Svc Pack 3 with 2gb of ram. It has major problems and I'm not sure if it is infected with something or it has some major file/hd corruption. It started a few days ago when he called and said it had hung up and he couldn't close his browser. He turned it off via the power switch but when it booted back up he couldn't open any files. Anything Microsoft on the computer won't work. Office, Outlook, IE, Works, etc. McAfee is DOA as well and the USB ports aren't functional. I tried to install Malwarebytes but it said it was unable to do so due to some .ocx file or something that was "missing".

I was able to boot from cd and run an antivirus program that said it found 14 adware cookies but no viruses or trojans. I downloaded an antivirus program from MS and performed what they called a "safety scan" and it didn't find anything either. Firefox browser works fine and I don't seem to be getting any redirects when I Google something.

Also the taskbar is missing and I have to go to My Computer to get to his program files. I have to ctrl+alt+delete and use the shutdown tab to turn it off. Thanks!
