That being said, here's my specific scenario.
I recently acquired the XP Anti-Virus 2011 bug. I followed the removal guides and was able to rid of it (I believe it was a Vundo something or other), and ran MB, SuperantiSpyware, Norton Security Suite, WinPatrol, and a Regedit file. I also had to register the wuaut...dll file to reinstate windows automatic updates as this popup never seemed to go away and automatic updates were not in the services list. I also cleaned out all system restore points once I thought I was all clear.
Well... I still am getting the pesky redirection with browser clickable links; chrome and firefox.I have uninstalled both and reinstalled chrome.
Equipment: Desktop connected to wireless router (2 laptops in the house that are unaffected). This desktop serves as the "hub", if you will, as I have an external hard-drive with shared folders connected to it (not since the infestation though) and my networked printer. It has two Hard Drives; one is the local C drive and the other was a previous computer's local C drive (now labelled F and subsequently was the one infected, I think) I am going to delete all windows items from that drive since it's pointless to have since I use it just for storage. I primarily use this computer for P2P (I know it's risky and also most likely the cause of the infection, but that's why I use this computer). I don't care about this computer much, or the contents as most everything I care about is on the external drive and laptops. That being said, it's probably not a good idea to have bugs unaddressed at the off-chance that someone other than myself chooses to use the computer for shopping, email, etc. and enters passwords and whatnot. Also, the laptops work fine so I can always go to them during the process of removal.
Please help me with this redirecting business and getting this computer to an all-clear status.
Thanks,
C
