I have a tangent laptop with windows xp installed and it has been starting up and going to a black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left hand corner. I made a recovery cd and booted from that but when it goes the the system recovery options an operating system isn't listed to repair so I have to load the drivers for my hard disks. The problem is I don't know which ones those are or where they would be located. I am also unsure of the model of the laptop the motherboard is EL80 if that matters. It also has an intel core 2 duo processor. Can anybody help?

i would say that you need to review your documentation...and go back to the manufacturer.

The black screen with flashing cursor...often indicates a damaged MBR, which is normally corrected by running the fixmbr command from the XP Recovery Console.
