I think I did a mistake. I forgot and I installed Avast antivirus before uninstalling Symantec AntiVirus version 10.1.

I tried to uninstall it with the Norton removal tool but it says to uninstall the product in Add&Remove programs first. I went to Add&Remove programs to uninstall SAV and then I got the Blue Screen of Death. So I restart my computer.

Now, I don't see symantec antivirus in my add&remove programs but it's still there! I retry the removal tool but it keeps saying to uninstall SAV through Add&Remove (but I dont see SAV anymore in Add&remove...)

ccEvtMgr.exe
ccSetMgr.exe
DefWatch.exe

Are still running even after I uninstall SAV.

Currently, I had been following this instruction: http://clientui-kb.symantec.com/kb/index?page=content&id=TECH101263&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1292820317225

But I stop at the registry step.

Please, what should I do?

Try uninstalling Avast if it's not already uninstalled. Then reinstall the exact same AV you need to remove. Then uninstall it again following the proper steps.

I already uninstall Avast. I don't have the setup file of the SAV anymore. The folders of Symantec are still in C:\Program Files

I found an old setup of SAV but it has error during the installation..

It doesn't work.

What doesn't work? Are the 'old' setup files identical to what you uninstalled? It has to be an exact match.

Sorry, the old setup files are not identical... It's version 9.0 while the current antivirus is version 10.1.

Are there other solutions please?

Post Updated:

I use the cheap solution so I use System Restore in Safe Mode to return to the previous state. So that was before I install Avast.

I uninstall Symantec and the uninstallation went correctly. Plus, I manage to use the Norton Removal Tool.

I think there are no traces of Symantec on my computer anymore. Are there other steps?
