Hi...

Q1: How can I obtain a control over Windows XP shared volume settings? Like disabling access to extended view of volume parameters? etc...
Q2: How can I block access to any *.exe files, except of programs/games executables?

It would be great if there's a tool for all that.

Thanks in advance. :)
Best regards,
rhino

Q1 - setup a second administrator account. Or use existing administrator account. Login as that administrator. You should have now access to do what you want. Root of any drive is normally disabled anyway from sharing. And you can set up what you want shared by right click a folder and select Security (if in properties you've disabled simple file sharing). Also shut off the Guest account.
Q2 - inconsistent question: You want to block *.exe yet you want to permit games exe files. So I don't understand.

There are tools for what I think you want done. Software restriction policies, etc. Go over to wilderssecurity.com - there's much advice regarding this, as well as various utilities for XP home. XP-pro can be restricted using various items in group policies.

tos226, thanks for reply...

By blocking *.exe I mean that I'd allow only program executables of currently installed programs.
There are many ways to mess things up, if another user is freakish. He, for example, can try to run unpacked (without installation) games, that are illegal, etc. There can be an executable for that, and who knows what might happen further on (various mistakes, etc.).

That said, I thank you for your support, and links. :thumbup2:

P.S. My OS is Windows XP Pro.
