This just started happening a couple of weeks ago.

At boot - after loggin on to Windows XP get the follow:

Error in C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\LXCItime.dll Missing entry:RunDLLEntry

I do have a Lexmark printer installed - but it has been for years. I tried re-installing the drivers from a package download off of the Lexmark site - no go.

Thanks for you assistance.

If reinstalling the driver did not work, then try doing using
Windows Search feature > More advanced options for the file to confirm it is missing or in another location. If found in another location, copy it to the correct folder.

If that does not work, then you may want to change the settings in Services.

Right-click My Computer, select Manage, expand Services and Applications in the left pane to get access to Services in XP or go to Posted Image > Control Panel > Administrative Tools and double-click on the Services option, then click OK.
  • Click the "Extended tab" at the bottom to view all the info on your services.
  • Scroll down the list and find the Lexmark service.
  • When you find the service, double-click on it or right-click and choose "Properties".
  • In the Properties Window > General Tab that opens, click the "Stop" button.
  • From the drop-down menu next to "Startup Type", click on "Manual".
  • Click "Apply", then "OK" and close any open windows.

Doing this tells Windows to only start up the Lexmark software when you need to print something.

I did the search as you instructed - found multiple copies of that .DLL - one that was already in the location cited in the error mesage (72kb). I found a 35kb file and tried to copy/replace the original - but this failed even more so.

When I opened services - the only service that appears to be related (no specific reference to Lexmark) is "lxci_device" - that does not have a description attached and is already set to manual.

Could this be an infection?

I would try uninstalling the printer (and all associated installed software)...then reinstalling it after running chkdsk /r on the Windows partition.

The legit file is 72/73 KB and is found in the folder you quote.
